Macquarie Group Foundation | 2024 Annual Review
As we approach the 25-year anniversary of Macquarie Sports, it is pleasing to see the impact from the range of programs we’re providing in the community. The outcomes achieved by our grant partners have expanded our support of young people to include education and employment-based outcomes. We are proud of their work, along with the work of our community partner organisations that provide sporting clinics for over 1,500 participants around Australia.”

Macquarie Sports works with peak sporting bodies to provide free sporting clinics to children in communities around Australia. In FY24, together with our partners, Macquarie Sports held 36 community sporting events across 10 sports, engaging over 1,500 children, many of whom are located in rural and remote communities across Australia
The clinics give children access to train with some of Australia’s best sporting role models and provide participants with brand new sporting equipment. In FY24 , sports included wheelchair sports, surfing, Australian rules football (AFL), hockey, netball, surf sports, rugby league, rugby union, basketball and water polo.
Macquarie Sports and the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) GIANTS held an AFL clinic at the GWS GIANTS Training and Community Centre in Sydney Olympic Park in September.
Over 65 girls from schools in the western Sydney area participated in a full-day program, with a focus on creating more opportunities for women and girls in AFL and expanding community outreach in western Sydney.
The day included fitness testing, skills development and game practice, a panel discussion and Q&A with current AFL players from the Women’s GWS GIANTS team, a high-performance seminar by GIANTS’ Head of High Performance and a nutrition seminar run by the team’s dietician.
Macquarie Sports Scholarships enable the transition from the sporting arena to the workplace for elite athletes with an interest in finance and banking. Macquarie Sports Scholarships align with Macquarie’s summer internship program, providing elite athletes who want to pursue a career in the financial sector with a 10-week summer internship and the opportunity to give back to their community.
A Macquarie Sports Scholarship Breakfast, held in December 2023, was an opportunity for the new cohort to connect with Macquarie Sports scholarships alumni and members of the Macquarie Sports Committee.
