New York, 01 October 2024
Macquarie Group (Macquarie), a global financial services group operating in 34 international markets, is pleased to announce that it has relocated its New York City office to 660 Fifth Avenue. The newly renovated Fifth Avenue location, which adds Macquarie’s logo to the New York City skyline for the first time, demonstrates Macquarie’s commitment to its people, the city and its clients across the United States.
The move marks 30 years for Macquarie in the US, with 660 Fifth Avenue becoming the new headquarters for its rapidly growing regional businesses in the Americas. The organization provides a wide variety of financial services throughout the United States and globally, including market access, trading, asset management, leasing and asset finance, corporate advisory, capital raising and principal investing. Macquarie serves a range of clients such as corporates, institutions, financial sponsors, governments and individual investors.
“The opening of our new office at 660 Fifth Ave provides our people with a place where they can feel empowered to collaborate, innovate and provide solutions for clients in a transformative way,” said Michael Silverton, the New York-based Global Head of Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory, capital markets and principal investing arm of Macquarie Group. “New York is a major innovation hub and we are thrilled to be entering our fourth decade in this city, as fast-changing technologies such as AI fundamentally alter the way society evolves, builds, works and invests.”
Centrally located at the corner of East 52nd Street in midtown Manhattan, Macquarie’s seven-floor, 250,000-square-foot workplace features wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of New York City landmarks; bright, modern meeting rooms and event spaces for client and community engagement; lounges and café areas for employees to gather; and private outdoor terrace gardens. An open atrium staircase connects all floors. The illuminated Macquarie logo tops the 39-story building, visible in three directions.
In designing the new 660 Fifth Avenue office interior, Macquarie and its New York architectural firm, Architecture Plus Information (A+I), employed a human-centered design methodology to ensure a ‘people-first’ space that would foster imagination, communication and openness, key elements in Macquarie’s approach to driving employee engagement and entrepreneurial thinking.
“Everything about our new workplace is intended to push the bounds of our creativity and focus for maximum impact. It is an ideal base for our talented teams to deploy our expertise and capital to benefit clients and communities in the US and the broader Americas region,” said Shawn Lytle, Head of Americas for Macquarie Group.
Originally constructed in 1957, the newly renovated, iconic mid-century modern office building at 660 Fifth is grounded in sustainability. Both the base building and interior workplace are targeting LEED Gold certification, and the building was selected as one of six inaugural commercial sites for the Empire Building Challenge, New York state’s program to elevate new design approaches for low-carbon retrofits in New York’s high-rise buildings. Macquarie Group is committed to 80 per cent of its global employees working in sustainably rated premises by FY2025.1
“We are excited to be part of a redevelopment project that preserved and enhanced a piece of New York history,” said Andrew Burdick, Macquarie’s Global Design Director - Workplace Design and Strategy. “We have created a hybrid workplace focused on sustainability, connectivity and community – with natural light, spaces that foster meaningful interaction, and wellness-focused amenities such as expansive landscaped terraces that extend our work floors into midtown Manhattan.”
The new office also provides facilities for the Macquarie Foundation and company staff to engage and volunteer with local community partners and institutions. Initiatives include providing a gallery for local organizations to curate and display their art; offering leadership programs for New York City high school and college students to participate in mentorship and speaker series; and welcoming non-profit partners to utilize Macquarie meeting and event spaces.
Macquarie recently opened other new workplaces in Philadelphia, Sao Paulo and Santiago, and will soon complete the renovation of its Houston office; in July, the firm unveiled its new global headquarters in Sydney, Australia. In the last five years, other Macquarie new office openings have included Munich, Milan, Paris, Tokyo and Seoul.
