2025 Global Economic and Market Outlook

5 December 2024

Ric Deverell, Macquarie's Chief Economist and Head of Net Zero, highlights how the global economy has outperformed expectations in 2024, with growth remaining near its long-run average, inflation subsiding and central banks easing policy.

Looking ahead to 2025, growth should remain robust over the first half of 2025, however Ric explains that the outlook beyond that will to a large degree depend on the timing and magnitude of fiscal, trade and immigration policies in the US. With markets priced to perfection, that could mean the first half of the year is the calm before the storm.
