Press Release
London, 31 January 2020
Macquarie Group (Macquarie) has been named one of the most Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) inclusive employers in Britain by equality charity Stonewall in its Top 100 Employers list for 2020. The Top 100 is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, this year collecting more than 109,000 anonymous responses from employees on their experience of Britain’s workplace culture and diversity.
Macquarie has climbed to No. 33 place on this year’s list, up from No. 86 in 2018 (the last year Macquarie submitted for the Index), demonstrating its continued commitment to diversity through inclusive programmes and events, senior leader sponsorship and resources aimed to educate and support LGBT employees and their colleagues in the workplace. Macquarie also works with other financial services organisations to promote and share LGBT equality best practice, learning from and contributing to the broader community.
This year’s Top 100 saw the largest ever number of submissions, with 503 employers outlining their commitment to LGBT workplace inclusion and their expertise in 10 key areas of employment policy and practice, including networking groups, senior leadership, procurement and how well they’ve engaged with LGBT communities.
Paul Plewman, Chief Executive Officer for EMEA at Macquarie said: “We are extremely proud to be recognised as one of Britain’s Top 100 LGBT inclusive employers again. Our improved ranking is a testament to hard work and credit must especially go to our staff and our employee network group, Pride EMEA in educating and creating awareness of LGBT matters. At Macquarie we have an ongoing commitment to provide a workplace that encourages all our people to bring their whole self to work, through our inclusive policies, training courses and community engagement.”
Geff Parsons and Joel Outlaw, Co-Chairs of Macquarie’s EMEA Pride Network said: “The Macquarie Pride Network has invested heavily in helping progress the LGBT agenda across the financial services industry and we hope that milestones such as this, not only encourage but empower our people to bring about positive change. Stonewall Top 100 Index is undoubtedly a key driver of change across the UK and we are extremely proud to have had our efforts recognised once again.”
Sanjay Sood-Smith, Stonewall’s Executive Director of Workplace and Community Programmes, said: “We are delighted to name Macquarie as one of our Top 100 Employers this year. All the organisations in this year's Top 100 Employer's list are playing a huge role in improving the lives of LGBT people and should be very proud of their work.”
