Approach

In July 2020, Macquarie Capital made a growth equity investment in StreetLight Data. Macquarie Capital identified StreetLight through dedicated outreach efforts in the government technology and infra-tech sectors, both of which are core areas of focus for the team.

Macquarie Capital’s transportation infrastructure expertise and relationships with various Departments of Transportation (DOTs) made Macquarie Capital a preferred investor.

Alongside co-investors Osage University Partners, Ajax Investment Strategies and Activate Capital, the new round brought together global leaders in infrastructure investing and clean technology innovation as North America’s transportation industry transitions into a new era of mobility, accelerated by COVID-19.

Outcome

Through its network of government relationships, Macquarie Capital was able to drive expansion opportunities for StreetLight’s platform, which allows communities to plan, measure and manage transportation needs for infrastructure planning in rapidly changing environments.

StreetLight is using smartphones as sensors to measure activity on all streets as COVID-19 continues to affect the global transportation landscape. Whether measuring the pandemic’s impact on specific communities or helping cities move forward with routine projects, StreetLight’s products allow users to get transportation metrics for regions 24/7.
