    Opportunity

Sandfire Resources is an international and diversified sustainable mining company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

An opportunity arose to transform Sandfire Resources' portfolio through an ambitious acquisition that would become a landmark transaction for both Sandfire Resources, Macquarie Capital and the broader sector. 1

    Approach

Macquarie Capital acted as sole financial adviser to Sandfire Resources on its $US1,865 million acquisition of the MATSA Mining Complex in Spain from Trafigura and Mubadala and joint lead manager on the associated $A1,250 million equity raising to part fund the acquisition.

Macquarie provided a comprehensive advisory and funding solution through its resources advisory and equity capital markets teams, working collaboratively with Macquarie’s Commodities and Global Markets Mining Finance team with its role as a lender in the $US650 million acquisition facility.

This is a transformative acquisition for Sandfire and a landmark transaction for the clean energy metals sector.

With Macquarie’s help Sandfire Resources completed this acquisition and secured a significant long-life copper asset which establishes a base in the region for a multi-decade of operations, with copper becoming increasingly valuable and critical to the electrification theme driving the energy transition.
