Chair's message
Our focus on the communities where Macquarie staff live and work helps to maximise our social impact by leveraging our staff time, expertise and networks as well as providing funding together with our staff. Since our inception in 1985, together with our staff, we have contributed $A330 million to community organisations around the world.
We volunteered our time and skills to support children’s education and those affected by cancer. We’ve supported people living on or around the streets of Kings Cross and those suffering from the loss of a loved one.
We matched our Australian staff’s fundraising efforts in support of abandoned and disadvantaged kids in China and underprivileged women and children in Sri Lanka.

We responded to relief efforts following unprecedented natural disasters. We matched fundraising efforts to help feed New York’s homeless, support sick children and their families and rehabilitate incarcerated people through the power of music.
Our staff took the pledge to mentor young people and celebrated that 100 young people have graduated from the LEADs mentoring program, a long time grant partner.

We funded shelters for abused and underprivileged children in Korea. We matched fundraising efforts in aid of a home for at-risk girls in Mumbai and organisations working to support vulnerable communities across Asia.
We volunteered our time at after school education centres in Japan, on community radio programs for job seekers in Gurugram and as role models for young girls considering a career in technology in Singapore.

We volunteered our time to mentor students in London and helped build capacity for eight non-profits using staff skills on six-month-long projects. Staff in our European offices and in South Africa volunteer their time to support homeless shelters and orphanages.
We matched fundraising efforts to enable more children to get a good education in Romania, to train a new assistance guide dog in Ireland and responded to relief efforts following fires in both the UK and South Africa.

Each year, outstanding staff contributions to the community are recognised through our Macquarie Staff in the Community Awards. Individual winners and team awardees receive $A10,000 to donate to the non-profit organisations they support while the office winner receives $A20,000. Highly Commended awards of $A2,000 are also given.
At the Macquarie Group Foundation, we want to achieve the most significant social impact possible, using not only our financial resources but also the skills and networks of Macquarie employees.

In 2017, Macquarie’s biannual Social Innovation Award was awarded to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), an organisation providing services to thousands of people with a physical or neurological disability and their families. CPA is using the $100,000 Award to fund its ‘Remarkable Accelerator Program’, which provides seed funding and support to early stage start-ups using technology to facilitate social and economic inclusion for people with disabilities.
Rob White, CPA's CEO, says the charity's vision is to maximise independence for people with disabilities through access to the latest technologies, specialised equipment and products that can enrich their lives.
"This Award will enable us to provide four $20,000 grants over two years to disability tech focused start-ups. Additional funds will be used to engage user testers (people with disabilities) to help with product validation of start-up products and services, and for mentor facilitation and recognition."
Previous Macquarie Social Innovation recipients are Hello Sunday Morning (2015) and The Fogarty Foundation (2014).
A part of the Macquarie Group Foundation, the Macquarie Group Collection acquires art by emerging Australian artists, in all media, around the theme of The Land and Its Psyche.
Established in 1987, the Collection is on display in more than 40 Macquarie offices worldwide and includes more than 800 works, which are selected by a volunteer committee of Macquarie Group staff and a curatorial expert. The Macquarie Group Collection has a 30-year heritage of supporting emerging Australian artists.
Now in its sixth year, the Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Prize supports and recognises a new generation of Australian visual artists.
The Macquarie Group First Nations Emerging Curator Award was established by Macquarie Group Foundation and the Australia Council for the Arts to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Macquarie Group Collection and mark the 50th Anniversary year of the 1967 Referendum.

Participation in sport plays an important role in strengthening and developing children and communities. The social, health and lifestyle benefits associated with sport shouldn’t be limited to those who can afford to participate. Macquarie Sports removes this barrier to participation in sport by providing free clinics to a wide range of communities around the country.
Utilising high profile sports people as ambassadors for the program, the aim is to inspire and motivate those participating. Macquarie Sports has directly reached over 200,000 children since 1999 with 5,318 children participating in the last calendar year.
